We recently completed a whole house remodeling project for our clients Bill and Tiaha. They recently purchased a home in a rural neighborhood near Harmony Grove, Wisconsin. Along with the kitchen and living room, we created a new study for the couple and a major bathroom remodeling tacking the upstairs kids and the master bathrooms. The homeowner's goal was to bring the two bathrooms up to date with the home's new Modern Farmhouse aesthetic while adding functionality and style.

Bringing a 1990s Master Bathroom into the 21st Century

The original master bathroom was dark and felt cramped. It featured the same dated oak cabinets as the original kitchen, a lower vanity height, a single molded marble sink and countertop, a tub module, and a linen closet with orange oak bifold doors. This was a bathroom desperately in need of an update! We started with the single vanity and dated tub module. Bill and Tiaha had definite ideas of what result they wanted from the bathroom remodeling. Two must-haves were a double sink vanity and a walk-in tile shower. We replaced the existing vanity with a Sunrise Custom Cabinetry vanity painted Foggy Day to brighten the room, adding a bank of drawers between the sinks to separate them. We also placed a cabinet on top of the vanity for additional storage.

With Bathroom Remodeling, The Beauty is In the Details

Tiaha requested that we incorporate vessel sinks into the design to meet the Modern Farmhouse aesthetic. Instead of full vessel sinks, we opted to do a half-vessel sink which kept the look of a vessel sink without making the vanity shorter, losing storage space.

The tub module was removed to make way for the new walk-in shower. To keep the walk-in shower within their budget, we used an acrylic shower base instead of a tile floor while keeping the wall tile and built-in niche for shower products. The orange bifold doors were removed and replaced with gorgeous sliding frosted glass doors! The couple loved these new doors so much that asked us to replace the master closet doors with the same ones!

An Update for the Kid's Bathroom

The last item on the list was a refresh of the kid's bathroom. We painted the existing cabinet Foggy Day to match the color of the kitchen island and master bathroom cabinetry, tying the visual design together. We replaced the old hardware with new modern cabinet pulls and knobs. Next, we replaced the molded marble countertop with quartz and installed new luxury vinyl tile to replace the old linoleum flooring. These final two rooms completed Bill and Tiaha's whole house remodeling project. The family can now enjoy spending tie in their brand-new kitchen, entertaining in their refreshed living room, working from home and reading in the new study, and getting ready for the day in their new master bathroom!

Senior Designer Dave Duewel’s selection of frosted glass for the barn and closet doors in this bathroom help the project to stand out. The choice to install the lavatory faucets at a symmetrical angle to each other isn’t just a design statement - it’s also a functional solution to the countertop space. Great ideas!
