A Contemporary Bathroom Makeover

Our young clients Jeff and Selina, came to us wanting a complete bathroom makeover of the master bathroom in their Wexford Village home in Madison, Wisconsin. Wishing to transform a chopped-up bathroom floorplan into a clean, modern design, they asked us to eliminate the dated whirlpool tub, keep the existing bump out window, and design a more functional space. The bathroom also featured 90's era oak that they wanted to remain since it matched the rest of the house. As a result, we had the added challenge of seamlessly combining the old and new designs.

Creating A New Efficient Floorplan

Removing the old shower opened up the space and brightened up the room. Using the existing shower plumbing rough-ins offered budget savings and the space needed to install a stand-alone Bourges 55-inch acrylic flat bottom soaking tub. We tiled the bump-out window in the shower space and added a white quartz ledge. The room is now bright, clean, and modern with a beautiful design and adding a usable shelf in the new shower enclosure.

The combination of light and dark tiles surrounding the bath and shower area makes the room brighter, modern, and beautiful. At the same time, the addition of Hanstone White Angora quartz ledges, countertop, and accents add a decorative and functional element. The contrast provided by the Network Gray painted wall behind the vanity works with the tiles to create contrasting textures and a luxurious vibe!

Beauty and Functionality

Jeff and Selina not only wanted a modern aesthetic, but they also wanted modern functionality. One item on their wish list was a dual shower head system. To make it possible and give the shower some depth, we used the existing plumbing rough-ins from the former whirlpool tub to make enough room to meet our client's needs.

We removed the original toilet room in the master bathroom. To stay within budget, we needed to use the existing plumbing, but this created a problem. The first view you would see when you opened the door was the toilet. As a solution, we bumped out an unusable corner of the master closet from a 45-degree angle to a 90-degree angle. This floor plan made the closet space usable, and it allowed us to create a niche for shelves at the main entrance of the bedroom and extra storage space in the bathroom. The result? You now look past the toilet instead of at the toilet!

A Bathroom Makeover: The Design is in the Details!

To bring a luxurious look to the bathroom, we focused on the details within the space. The Sunrise Custom Amish-made floating Vanity painted in Sherwin Williams Knitting Needles, with Miseno 8 13/16” center to center pull bars in brushed nickel, provides a stunning focal point. 

The vanity light is by Innovations Lighting from their Nouveau collection in Brushed Satin Nickel. It provides plenty of light for applying make-up and looks great! We used a custom-stained oak barn door with obscure glass to support the medium oak staining throughout the home. The barn door eliminates the concern of a door swinging into the toilet. When opened, it provides a great view into the most beautiful areas of the bathroom. 

The result is a modern, functional master bathroom makeover that exceeded the homeowner's expectations!
